Friends of Hengrove Mound & Hawkfield Meadow

Support your local green spaces

The group was formed to help protect, maintain and enjoy these precious green spaces and ensure they’re around for others to enjoy in future.

Activities the group hope to run include, litter picks, habitat management, bat walks, pond restoration and wildlife monitoring.

Hengrove Mounds is a Local Nature Reserve in South Bristol, close to Hengrove Leisure Centre and Hengrove Leisure Park. It’s made up a third by woodland, a third by scrub and a third by species rich grassland, making it a diverse place for wildlife and supporting many nesting birds and invertebrates.

Hawkfield Meadows is an unimproved neutral grassland meadow, which supports a wide variety of wildflowers. Many species of birds have been recorded here, including, whitethroat, lesser whitethroat, song thrush, bullfinches, reed bunting, siskin and redpoll. It also provides habitat for the rare small blue butterfly and the carrot mining bee.

These green spaces are situated in South Bristol about 3 miles from the centre of Bristol in England, United Kingdom.

The areas are used by dog walkers, cyclers, runners, students from the local schools and college, bird watchers and other wildlife watchers, and for just getting away from the stresses of everyday life.
